Adoption & Foster Care
Are you a foster, kinship, or adoptive parent facing the hurdles of raising a child from hard places?
Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) strategies along with therapy for the child can help with the root causes behind the negative behaviors and struggles unique to children in foster care.
Studies show that even children adopted at birth experience a change in brain neurotransmitters that can affect attachment and behaviors.
Interlude Christian Counseling is here to support your parent/child relationships through coaching and/or therapy.

Anxiety & Depression
Children and teens as well as adults can struggle with symptoms of depression and anxiety. Some children may appear anxious due to sensory avoiding or seeking behaviors.
Strengthening the connection between parent and child or teen or between adult relationships can help reduce feelings of loneliness and stress, while therapy can support positive change and healing depression and anxiety.
If you or your child/teen experiences suicidal thoughts or thoughts about death, please reach out for help immediately and/or call 911 for a professional assessment on the level of risk.

Bullying
Every child and teen longs to feel loved, accepted, and valued.
Sadly, there are experiences of bullying that can occur that impact a child/teen’s self-image and relationships as well as their academics.
Bullying can lead to self-harm and suicide if a child/teen is left isolated and unable to resolve the situation.
Whether your child is the recipient or perpetrator of bullying behavior, Marie is here to provide a therapeutic approach to recovery and to work with your child/teen to build boundaries and healthy relationships with others.

Domestic Violence Recovery
One in 4 women experience domestic violence in their lifetime. Healing from the trauma of intimate partner violence is supported by having a therapist who understands the effects of abuse.
Children suffer too during domestic violence.
Studies show that exposure to domestic violence can lead to behavioral struggles, educational problems, and mental health issues, if not addressed in time.
Play and individual therapy, as well as group therapy, can help kids heal from the effects of domestic violence, and can support them in knowing how to build positive relationships.

Grief & Loss
Infants to adults experience grief and loss.
Children in foster care all experience loss, as do children whose parent’s divorce.
Children who lose a loved one or pet or experience other losses of relationships can display symptoms of their hurt through anger, depression, self-harm, and other behaviors.
Marie is here at Interlude Christian Counseling to walk with you and your family as you journey through the stages of grief.

Individual Therapy
Individual therapy is talk therapy and is suitable for children/teens who prefer to use words over play to communicate their feelings and thoughts.
Individual therapy uses treatment methods best suited to the client to help them heal from hurts, make necessary changes, and to grow through the challenging experiences life brings our way.

Infant Mental Health
Children ages 0 to 3 as well as those in utero are susceptible to what Momma goes through.
The most likely injured, the most removed from homes by authorities, and the most vulnerable for abuse are children ages 0 to 3 years of age.
Infant mental health addresses the effects of prenatal and early childhood stressors and trauma, as well as focusing on healthy attachment to safe caregivers.

Parenting & Co-Parenting
Though Marie does not work with clients currently in active custody battles, support for learning to co-parent is available.
Parenting is said to be the hardest but most rewarding thing you will ever do. Whether you are parenting as a couple, a single, or co-parenting, having someone to support you in your journey through counseling or consulting, can be helpful.
Are you unsure about what your child should be doing or not doing? Do you struggle to connect with your teen?
There is help available to make your most important years of child rearing the most rewarding.

Play Therapy
Play is the language of children.
Play therapy provides the perfect environment for a child to “talk” through play, and to process through difficult feelings.
Has your child been through major transitions, a medical procedure, experienced trauma, or bullying, or had concerning behaviors?
Play therapy is not only fun, but it can also support your child’s recovery and provide a way for your child to tell you what is bothering them.

Sand Tray Therapy
Sand trays are not just for children.
Sometimes, it is easier to express our feelings through pictures than words.
Sand tray offers an opportunity to discover things about yourself as well as others during treatment. It is an activity often used in therapy for ages 8+ and is usually met with positive responses.

Sexual Abuse Recovery
Research states that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys experience sexual abuse by age 18. These statistics are from 2011, which may indicate that there is an even greater number of children facing the trauma of sexual abuse.
Symptoms of trauma and PTSD can be greatly reduced with the right treatment method.
Interlude Christian Counseling’s approach includes building safe relationships and boundaries that will support recovery from sexual trauma.

Trauma Recovery
Children do suffer from exposure to traumatic events, even if they happen in the womb or early childhood.
Studies show that some children get PTSD from going through severe trauma.
Play therapy and talk therapy can support a child’s recovery after a traumatic experience so that the effects of the trauma are reduced.
